The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has authorized tertiary institutions to admit candidates who will turn 16 years old by August 31, 2025.
New Policy Details:
- Minimum age requirement: 16 years old by August 31, 2025
- Institutions can admit eligible candidates regardless of age
- Ensures fairness for candidates whose admissions extend until August 2025
- Institutions maintain autonomy to set own minimum age requirements
JAMB’s Directive:
“Candidates who meet institutional admission standards should not be denied admission solely based on age,” said Muhammad Babaji, Director of Admissions.
Institutional Requirements:
- Gather information from Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS)
- Submit list of eligible candidates who turn 16 between January 1 and August 31, 2025, within one week

The decision was made at the 2024 Policy Meeting to address the minimum age requirement for admissions.
