Kaduna Varsity ASUU Suspends Strike After Government’s Commitment to Payment of Withheld Salaries

The Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its strike, which began on February 18. The decision was made after the government demonstrated goodwill by releasing funds to pay 60% of the withheld September 2017 salaries and Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) supervision allowance for five sessions.

The government also agreed to a timeline for paying the withheld salaries from May to September 2022, promotion arrears, Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), Pension remittance (2009 to 2019), Death benefits, and Group Life Assurance. Additionally, the government committed to implementing the wage award and granting autonomy to the university.

The union expressed gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for his swift intervention and leadership in resolving the issues that led to the strike. The ASUU chairman, Dr. Peter Adamu, called on all academic staff to resume duties and continue providing valuable services to the university community.
