Kwara Police Dismiss, Prosecute Three Officers Over Student’s Death

 

The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed three officers involved in the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a 21-year-old Kwara State Polytechnic student.

 

Dismissed Officers:

1. Inspector Abiodun Kayode

2. Inspector James Emmanuel

3. Sergeant Oni Philip

 

Charges:

  • Leaving beat
  • Corrupt practices
  • Unlawful exercise of authority

 

Incident:

Ishola died during a stop-and-search operation in Ilorin’s Fate area on September 4, 2024.

 

Investigation:

A thorough investigation and internal disciplinary trial led to the officers’ dismissal.

 

Prosecution:

The officers will be arraigned in court as soon as possible.

 

Police Statement:

“The Kwara State Police Command extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola… We remain committed to providing them with support during this difficult period.”

 

Reaction:

The Student Union Government of Kwara State Polytechnic had demanded justice and an open investigation.
