The Lagos State Government has emphasized the importance of road safety among students, urging them to adhere to safety standards to prevent traffic accidents.
Bakare-Oki Olalekan, General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), made this call during the re-launch of the Lagos State School Safety Traffic Advocacy Programme.
Olalekan cited the World Health Organisation’s statistics, which reveal that over 1.2 million people die annually due to road traffic accidents.
He stated that the programme aims to educate children on road safety and responsible behavior while walking to and from school.
Other dignitaries present at the event, including the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring road safety for children.
