Lagos State New Traffic Offences and Their Fines 2024

 

The Lagos State Government has introduced new traffic offences and fines to promote road safety and discipline. Here are the updated offences and penalties:

Vehicle Documentation and Licensing

1. Driving without a driver’s license: Impound vehicle
2. Driving with fake number plates: N30,000, 3 years in prison
3. Driving with forged vehicle particulars: 6 months in prison
4. Driving with fake driver’s license: 6 months in prison

Vehicle Maintenance and Safety

1. Driving without road worthiness: Impound vehicle
2. Driving with worn-out tire: N30,000
3. Driving without spare tire: N30,000
4. Driving smoking vehicle: N30,000
5. No fire extinguisher: N30,000
6. Broken windscreen: N30,000
7. Tinted windscreen: N30,000

Traffic Rules and Regulations

1. Disobeying LASTMA Officer: N30,000/Impound vehicle
2. Neglect of traffic direction light: 3 months in prison
3. One-way driving: 3 years in prison
4. Failure to yield to right of way of pedestrian at zebra crossing: N20,000 (1st), N30,000 (subsequent)

Driver Behavior

1. Smoking while driving: N30,000/Impound vehicle
2. Physically assaulting traffic officer: N50,000/6 months in prison
3. Eating and driving with one hand: 3 months in prison
4. Driving without fastened seat belt: N30,000

Commercial Vehicles

1. Not painting commercial vehicle approved color: N50,000
2. No car hire service permit: N20,000 (1st), N30,000 (2nd), Impound vehicle

Parking and Obstruction

1. Parking on yellow line on public highway/illegal parking: N20,000 (1st), N30,000 (subsequent)
2. Obstruction of traffic: N20,000
3. Picking/Dropping passengers on illegal bus stop: N50,000

BRT and Walkways

1. Driving on BRT lanes: N70,000
2. Driving on walkway or kerb: Impound
3. Reversing on highway & parking on walkways: N50,000
