The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested four suspected traffic robbers in Mushan, Lagos. The suspects, identified as Ismail Akinan (26), Rasak Abiodun (25), Adefabi Gbolahan (25), and Rilwan Olaloye (20), were caught following a series of intelligence-led operations.
According to the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, the suspects targeted motorists during rush hour gridlocks, exploiting bad road conditions to steal valuables such as phones, bags, and cash. Akerele explained that the suspects’ modus operandi involved distracting motorists while stealing their belongings.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, Ismail Akinan, confessed to his involvement in the crimes and revealed the network behind their operations. Akinan stated that he would steal phones and other valuables and then sell them to a receiver known as “Number One,” who is currently at large.
Akinan further disclosed that the gang capitalized on poor road conditions to corner unsuspecting victims, who were forced to slow down due to potholes and damaged roads. The suspects would then take advantage of the situation to steal from the motorists.
CSP Akerele commended the Taskforce officers for their diligence in tracing a stolen phone to the Idi-Oro axis in Mushan, which ultimately led to the suspects’ capture. He warned others engaging in similar criminal activities to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
“All four suspects have been interrogated and will be charged to court immediately,” Akerele stated.
