A 20-year-old man, Safiyanu Dalhatu, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly beating his mother, Salama Abdullahi, to death with a pestle.
According to a press release issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, the incident occurred on February 24, 2025, in the Abujan Kwata area of Bauchi.
Wakil stated that the suspect allegedly assaulted his 40-year-old mother, causing fractures to both of her hands and other bodily injuries. The victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where she was confirmed dead.
The police spokesperson noted that initial investigations suggest that an altercation between the suspect and his mother led to the assault. The pestle used in the incident has been recovered and documented as evidence.
The state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, has directed a thorough investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department. The suspect will be prosecuted upon completion of the investigation.
This incident highlights the growing concern of domestic violence and the need for community members to report such incidents to the authorities.
