Media Crucial to Nation-Building, Says Lagos Deputy Governor

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has emphasized the crucial role of journalists in nation-building, describing them as “nation builders” who shape public narratives and perception.

He made this statement during a recent Breakfast Chat with journalists, where he acknowledged the media’s fundamental role in shaping public discourse and driving national development.

Hamzat also urged media practitioners to focus on developmental issues, emphasizing the need for balanced reporting that highlights both challenges and progress.

This, he believes, is essential for public understanding and support of the government’s developmental initiatives.

In addition, the Deputy Governor explained that the government’s urban renewal decisions, such as removing structures in specific areas, are necessary precautions against environmental challenges threatening the city’s future.

The Lagos State Government has also made efforts to enhance social welfare, disbursing over N700 million to assist 2,344 residents with financial aid, including health expenses, housing needs, business support, and school fees under the Sanwo-Olu Listens Programme.
