Minister Unveils Plan to Combat Fake News in Nigeria

 

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has launched a comprehensive plan to tackle misinformation and enhance grassroots communication.

Key Strategies:

1. Operationalising the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Institute in Abuja to equip Nigerians with critical thinking skills.
2. Utilising local languages, community radio stations and town hall meetings to ensure government policies reach remote areas.
3. Modernising public information systems through digital tools and artificial intelligence.

Minister’s Address:

Idris stressed the importance of combating fake news, advocating for media literacy and inclusive governance. He urged state governments to preserve and strengthen their Ministries of Information, citing their crucial role in bridging the gap between government policies and citizens.

Idris’s strategy aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, prioritising transparency, inclusivity and people-centred governance.
