NAFDAC Cracks Down on Fake Beverage Producers, Arrests Suspect in Port Harcourt

NAFDAC has vowed to crack down on producers of adulterated beverages, following the arrest of a 52-year-old man, Anthony Chidi, in Port Harcourt. Chidi was caught washing used bottles of various brands of alcoholic beverages, which he would then refill and sell to unsuspecting consumers.

The agency’s Director, Chukwuma Oligbu, warned that “hard times” await those involved in the illicit production of regulated products. Oligbu emphasized that NAFDAC will continue to clamp down on perpetrators and advised those involved in adulterating registered products to cease their activities or face prosecution.

The arrest is part of NAFDAC’s efforts to curb the production and sale of fake and substandard products. In a separate operation, NAFDAC intercepted counterfeiters involved in the production of variety of beverages, including wines and soft drinks, in Aba, Abia State.
