NAFDAC Destroys ₦120 Billion Worth of Seized Products Nationwide

 

NAFDAC has destroyed over ₦120 billion worth of seized products nationwide in six months, covering October to December 2024. These products include substandard and falsified medicines, counterfeit foods, and beverages.

The agency’s efforts to remove harmful products from the market have been ongoing, with operations conducted across major cities like Lagos, Port Harcourt, Aba, Ibadan, Kaduna, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Some notable seizures include:

  1.  Expired and Unregistered Drugs: ₦11 billion worth destroyed in Ibadan
  2.  Fake Medicines: ₦300 million worth seized in Lagos
  3. Counterfeit Alcohol Packaging: Centers dismantled, and items valued at ₦2 billion confiscated in Lagos
  4. Counterfeit Rice: ₦5 billion worth seized in Nasarawa State and FCT (Abuja Markets)

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, warns that products sold at unusually low prices are often substandard or counterfeit. She advises Nigerians to prioritize safety by purchasing food and beverages only from credible outlets and avoiding products without NAFDAC registration numbers.
