NAFDAC has destroyed counterfeit, expired, and substandard pharmaceuticals worth N4.7 billion in Nigeria’s South-South region. The destroyed items include:
- Falsified medical products: counterfeit medicines that can cause harm to consumers
- Expired drugs: medicines that are past their expiration dates and may be ineffective or toxic
- Substandard food additives: food additives that do not meet safety standards
- Unregistered cosmetics: cosmetics that have not been registered with NAFDAC and may contain harmful ingredients
The destruction exercise was conducted at a waste disposal site in Port Harcourt, and it’s part of NAFDAC’s efforts to rid the market of dangerous medical products and unwholesome consumer goods.
