NATCOMS to Challenge NCC’s 50% Tariff Hike Decision in Court

The National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) is set to challenge the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) decision to allow a 50% tariff hike in court. NATCOMS President, Deolu Ogunbanjo, stated that the NCC did not consult with them before approving the tariff increase, which they find unacceptable.

NATCOMS had previously suggested a marginal increase of 5-10% in tariff, considering the telecommunications industry’s challenges. However, the approved 50% hike will significantly impact operational costs for businesses and individuals alike.

The NCC justified the tariff increase, citing the need to balance consumer protection with the sustainability of the telecommunications industry. They also mandated operators to implement the adjustments transparently and fairly.

This development may lead to a prolonged legal battle, as NATCOMS prepares to challenge the NCC’s decision in court.
