National Insecurity Tracker weekly Update January 15-21, 2025

 

Nigeria Insecurity Tracker (NIT) is an effort to chronicle and map insecurity and violence based on a weekly survey of media reportsThe data include violent incidents relating to political, economic, and social grievances directed at the state or other affiliated groups, or the state employing violence to respond to those incidents.

JANUARY 15: Cultists shot and killed a HND final year student of Akwa State Polytechnic , Ikot Osurua, Akwa Ibom State.

JANUARY 15: Bandits attacked the General Hospital in Kankara LGA, Katsina State, shot a medical doctor and kidnapped five persons.

JANUARY 16: The troops of Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade, neutralised six terrorists in Gudu LGA of Sokoto State and recovered weapons.

JANUARY 16: A man stabbed his brother-in-law to death at Ubomiri in Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State..

JANUARY 16. A 23-year old man machetted his father to death over refusal to give him N5000 at Amukpe, Sapele LGA of Delta State.

JANUARY 16: A Computer Science student of Westland Polytechnic, Ilobu, Ogun State was shot and killed in the town by gunmen suspected to be from Ifon community.

JANUARY 17: An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Aminu Salisu, was shot and killed during an operation in Awka, Anambra.

JANUARY 18: Joint security personnel in Katsina State foiled bandits’ attack on Ruwan-Doruwa village, Dutsin-ma LGA and neutralised seven suspected bandits.

JANUARY 19: A man alleged to be a cultist, Nasir Isiaka, was killed by two masked men at Owo in Owo LGA of Ondo State.

JANUARY 19: Gunmen shot the Celestial Church prophet to death during Sunday service at Idiroko, Ogun State.

JANUARY 19: Police confirmed one person dead in a clash between the people of Omege-Agalagu and Ukwuinyima Communities in Ikwo LGA of Ebonyi State.

JANUARY 20: A robbery attack at Ngalda Market in Yobe State led to the loss of seven lives, and wounding of 11 others.

JANUARY 20: The Police killed a kidnap kingpin in Yola LGA of Adamawa State.

JANUARY 20: Military kills Turji’s son, several other terrorists estimated at 34 during a coordinated operations between troops of Operation Fansan Yamma and the air component along Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa and Chindo axis, Zamfara State.

JANUARY 21: A middle-aged man set his wife ablaze over a family dispute at Eziezekwe village in Abagana, Njikoka LGA of Anambra State and the woman died on January 22 as a result of the burns she sustained during the incident.

JANUARY 21: The Vice Chairman of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Kawuri. Godori, Borno State stepped on a bomb believed to have been planted by terrorists a day earlier and died in the instant explosion
