The Niger State Government has sealed a sachet water factory, Golden Age Factory, due to air pollution complaints from residents of the surrounding community in Gidan Madara, a densely populated area west of Minna City Gate.
The residents had petitioned the Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change, Yakubu Kolo, stating that the factory’s plastic production operations had released dangerous pollutants into the air, causing severe health issues, including respiratory diseases, and untimely deaths.
In response to the petition, the Commissioner of Environment directed the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency to seal the factory’s plastic production operations, although water production has been allowed to continue temporarily.
The factory has been directed to relocate to an industrial area where its emissions will not pose health risks to residents.
