Nigeria Allocates N41.49 Billion for Rail Projects in 2025 Budget

 

The Nigerian Federal Government has allocated N41.49 billion for rail projects in the 2025 budget. Here’s a breakdown of how the funds will be utilized:

 Completion of ongoing projects:

  •  Abuja-Kaduna railway project
  • Lagos-Ibadan rail line and associated additional works
  •  Rehabilitation and construction:
  •  Itakpe-Ajaokuta rail line
  •  12 station buildings
  •  Track-laying works at railway ancillary facilities in Agbor

 

Modernization and security:

  •  Design, manufacture, supply, and installation of rolling stock, spare parts, and maintenance equipment
  •  Installation of a signal and telecommunication system on the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri railway line
  •  Installation of an acoustic sensing security surveillance system for the Abuja (Idu)-Kaduna route and other security gadgets

 

 Feasibility studies and concessions:

  •  Completion of feasibility studies for new standard gauge rail lines
  • Engagement of transaction advisors for the concession of the Abuja-Baro-Itakpe segment and the Kano-Maradi line

The Ministry of Transport will receive a total allocation of N256.73 billion in the 2025 budget, with N223.80 billion earmarked for capital expenditure.
