Nigeria Earns $1.5 Billion in Taxes from Tech Giants in 2024

 

 

Nigeria has earned approximately $1.5 billion (2.55 trillion naira) in taxes from tech giants like Google, X, Microsoft, and TikTok in 2024. This revenue is a significant increase, highlighting the impact of robust regulatory frameworks on compliance and revenue growth in the digital economy.

 

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) praised these platforms for adhering to Nigeria’s code of practice for interactive computer services and internet platforms. This code promotes online safety and manages harmful content.

 

Some notable statistics from the 2023 compliance report include:

 

  • 4,125,283 registered complaints
  • 65,853,581 content takedowns
  • 379,433 removed and re-uploaded content following user appeals
  • 12,099,633 closed and deactivated accounts

 

These efforts demonstrate the positive impact of collaboration between the government and tech platforms in creating a safer digital environment for Nigerians.
