A widespread power outage has hit several states in Nigeria, including Gombe, Bauchi, Benue, and Plateau, due to a fault on the 330kV double-circuit transmission lines from Ugwuji to Makurdi to Jos.
The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) confirmed that the tripping of the lines occurred at around 12:21 pm today, resulting in the loss of power supply on all 33KV feeders.
Engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are currently working to rectify the fault, according to Dr. Friday Elijah, Head of Corporate Communications at JEDC. Elijah apologized for the inconvenience and expressed appreciation for customers’ patience, assuring that normal power supply will be restored as soon as the fault is rectified.
This power outage is not an isolated incident, as insecurity and power outages have been affecting the ease of doing business in Zamfara, and Bauchi has pledged to prepare gymnasts for the next championship amidst these challenges. Additionally, a recent windstorm destroyed electric poles, causing a blackout in Calabar.
