Nigeria Sets to Reintegrate 789 Repentant Boko Haram Terrorists into Society

The Nigerian government is making efforts to reintegrate former Boko Haram terrorists into society. According to General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, 789 ex-combatants are currently undergoing the De-radicalization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DRR) programme under Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC).

These individuals, who have voluntarily surrendered, will receive personal items and start-up packages to help them establish small businesses and rebuild their lives. The programme aims to provide a fresh start for these ex-combatants and promote lasting peace and security in Nigeria.

Operation Safe Corridor has been successful in processing 2,190 clients, including 2,163 Nigerians and 27 foreign nationals, since its inception in 2016. The next group of ex-combatants is set to graduate in March 2025 and will be handed over to national and state authorities for reintegration.

The Nigerian government is urging state governments to support the reintegration process by offering additional assistance and working with local and traditional authorities to monitor and track the progress of the ex-combatants.
