Nigerian Correctional Service Suspends Four Senior Officers Over Bobrisky’s Imprisonment

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended four senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service due to allegations of misconduct related to the imprisonment of popular socialite, Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky.

Bobrisky claimed in a voice note that his godfather and the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment. Following this revelation, the Board suspended Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, both Deputy Controllers of Corrections at Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre, Lagos.

Additionally, Ogbule Obinna, an ASC II officer at Medium Security Custodial Centre, Afikpo, Ebonyi State, was suspended for allegedly accompanying an inmate out of the facility. Iloafonsi Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections at Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje-Abuja, was also suspended for allegedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.

The suspension allows for further investigation into the allegations. According to Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Board, the outcome of the investigation will be made public upon completion.

This move aims to ensure transparency and accountability within the Nigerian Correctional Service and address concerns surrounding Bobrisky’s imprisonment.
