Nigerian Navy Welcomes First Female Pilot

 

Lt. Changfe Maigari made history as the Nigerian Navy’s first female pilot since its inception in 1964. Born in Kaduna and hailing from Plateau State, Maigari’s journey began in 2016 when she graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy and was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant.

Achievements and Training

1. Graduated as Best Graduating Cadet in Academics in 2016
2. Earned the Gold Medal Navy award
3. Completed Sub Lieutenant Technical Course as overall best in 2019
4. Completed basic pilot training and fulfilled all requirements

Presentation of Pilot Wing Award

Maigari received the ‘Pilot Wing’ award during the 2024 NN Ceremonial Sunset at the Naval Training Command Headquarters in Ebube-Eleme, Rivers.

Inspiration and Perseverance

Maigari hopes her achievement inspires young girls to join the military and persevere through challenges. She expressed gratitude to God, her colleagues and family for their support.

Chief of Naval Staff’s Commendation

Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla commended Maigari and other award recipients for their exemplary achievements, highlighting the navy’s significant strides in combating maritime crimes.

Navy’s Achievements

1. Launched Operation Delta Sanity, curbing oil theft and maritime crimes
2. Established new naval bases in Enugu and Makurdi
3. Acquired new vessels and helicopters
4. Upgraded barracks and housing for personnel

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers praised the Nigerian Navy’s efforts in combating oil theft and illegal bunkering, promising continued support.
