Nigerian troops have made significant gains in the fight against terrorism, eliminating at least 8,000 terrorists and arresting over 11,600 militants in 2024. This achievement deals a major blow to elements challenging national security and peace in the nation. Additionally, the forces rescued around 8,000 kidnap victims across the country and recovered more than 10,000 weapons from non-state actors within the year.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, highlighted these successes while briefing the media on the activities of the Tinubu-led administration. The minister also noted progress in fiscal policies, oil and gas reforms, passport reforms, and student loans support.
Some key achievements mentioned include:
- Economic Growth: The introduction of the Electronic Foreign Exchange Matching System (EFEMS) has resulted in unprecedented stability and clearance of billions of dollars in FX backlogs.
- Oil and Gas Reforms: Nigeria has become the most attractive destination for oil and gas investments in Africa, attracting over $5 billion in signed investment commitments.
- Education: Over 169,000 Nigerian students have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loans fund, with N32.8 billion disbursed for school fees, upkeep, and allowances.
- Energy: The government has encouraged the establishment of over 150 compressed natural gas conversion centers nationwide, reducing reliance on petrol and gas.
