One day, the Federal Government of Nigeria finalized plans to construct seven dams across the six southwestern states to enhance food production and irrigation, as announced by Dr. Adedeji Ashiru, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun Osun River Basin Development Authority. These dams will enable all-year-round farming, boost food production, and control flooding in line with President Bola Tinubu’s agriculture agenda.
Key Features of the Project:
- Seven Dams: To be constructed across the six southwestern states
- Irrigation Purposes: To enable all-year-round farming and boost food production
- 12 Greenhouses and Open Fields: To be built at each dam location for farming
- Storage Houses: To store farm produce
- Hydropower Generation: Oyan Dam’s hydropower-generating component to be concessioned to boost power supply
