Ogun State Government Urges Residents to Relocate Amid Flooding

 

Abeokuta, Nigeria – The Ogun State Government has issued an immediate relocation advisory to residents of flooded areas due to the release of excess water from Oyan Dam.

 

Affecting Communities:

  •  Isheri
  • Riverview Estate
  •  Oshorun Estate
  •  OPIC Estate
  • Arepo
  •  Mawere
  •  Akute
  •  Alagbole
  •  Orimerunmu
  •  Magboro

 

Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, explained that the release is unavoidable to prevent damage. However, floodwater is expected to recede significantly from October 25.

 

Government Response:

  •  Collaboration with Lagos and Federal Government to find lasting solutions
  •  Earlier flood alert advisory to relocate or elevate homes
  • Dredged waterways, watercourses, and canals to facilitate flood receding
