A devastating incident occurred in the Shogoye area of Owode-Egba, Ogun State, resulting in the death of Nwachukwu Ikechukwu due to generator fume inhalation.
On Thursday, around 10 pm, Ikechukwu and his wife, Oyin Falodun, were using a generator to power their fans. However, they fell unconscious, overcome by the fumes.
Neighbor Oladayo Olasubomi discovered the couple and alerted others, including community chairman Showunmi Sunday, who notified the police.
According to Oyin Falodun, who regained consciousness after being hospitalized:
“My husband told me not to turn off the generator until we fell asleep. It must have caused harm before running out of fuel and turning off.”
The police confirmed the incident, stating:
“There were no marks of violence on the deceased.”
Nwachukwu Ikechukwu’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital, Owode-Egba for autopsy. Oyin Falodun is recovering at Ore Ofe Hospital.
This tragic event highlights the dangers of generator fumes and emphasizes the importance of proper ventilation.
