Ondo Flood: State Government Orders Evacuation, Deploys Excavators

 

A devastating flood swept through Ondo town, destroying property worth millions of naira and displacing numerous residents. Heavy rainfall on Friday caused the flood, affecting several areas.

– Itanla

– Oka

– Odo Ijomu

– Bethlehem

– Akure-Ondo Expressway

 

No Loss of Life Reported

Despite the extensive damage, fortunately, there were no reported casualties.

 

Government Response:

Ondo State Deputy Governor, Aiyedatiwa, ordered immediate evacuation in affected areas. The Environment Commissioner, Oyeniyi Oseni, stated:

 

“We’ve deployed amphibious excavators to critical erosion-prone areas for dredging to prevent future flooding.”

 

Causes of Flooding:

Unauthorized development on waterways in Fagun estate and Ife Road area contributed to the flooding.

 

Future Measures:

The state government will collaborate with relevant sections to address unlawful development along waterways.
