Ayomide Adeleye, a 23-year-old Olabisi Onabanjo University philosophy student, has admitted to murdering 18-year-old Christiana Idowu, an Industrial Training student at Yaba College of Technology.
Adeleye, now in police custody, revealed that financial difficulties drove him to commit the heinous crime. He lured Idowu to his residence under the guise of repairing her phone.
“I killed her because I had financial problems,” Adeleye stated, describing how he applied pressure, suppressed her, and eventually strangled her.
After the murder, Adeleye buried Idowu’s body in a shallow grave behind his compound and extorted N360,000 from her mother through ransom demands.
Adeleye’s capture was facilitated by tracing his SportyBet account, where he had uploaded his National Identification Number.
Expressing remorse, Adeleye stated, “I regret that I killed her… I don’t deserve any mercy… I deserve death, honestly.”
The case highlights the disturbing consequences of financial desperation and the importance of swift justice.
An investigation is ongoing.
