Oshiomhole Queries JAMB’s N850m Spending on Mosquito Fumigation

Senator Adams Oshiomhole is questioning JAMB’s spending habits, specifically the N850 million spent on security, cleaning, and fumigation in 2024. He’s asking what exactly was fumigated, sarcastically suggesting it might have been mosquitoes.

Oshiomhole also criticized JAMB for spending N1.1 billion on meals and refreshments, wondering if the government is freely feeding them. Additionally, he questioned the N600 million spent on local travel.

JAMB’s registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, explained that JAMB remitted N4 billion to the Consolidated Revenue Fund in 2024 and received a grant of N6 billion from the Federal Government. However, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Abiodun Faleke, wondered why JAMB, a revenue-generating agency, relies on federal allocations.

The lawmakers are considering removing JAMB’s allocation in subsequent budgets unless they provide convincing justifications for their spending.
