The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, has passed away after a brief illness. He was 42 years on the throne, having ascended on February 20, 1982. Security operatives have been stationed at the palace, including policemen and DSS agents.
Chief Olayinka Fasuyi, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, paid tribute to the late monarch, describing him as a symbol of Obokun Adimula and a pride of Yoruba traditional intellectualism. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whose wife is from Ilesa, Osun State, also expressed sadness over the monarch’s death, praising him as a fatherly figure and a symbol of the courage and discipline of the Ijesha people.
Atiku shared a photo with the late monarch and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, writing: “With a heavy heart, I received the news of the passing of the Owa Obokun of Ijesha land, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran. He was a great monarch and personified the boldness, courage, and discipline of the Ijesha progeny.” He prayed for the soul of the late monarch to find a gentle repose.
