The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to review the Ondo governorship election held on November 16, 2024, citing widespread electoral irregularities.
The party described the election as the worst conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), falling short of expectations for a free, fair, and credible election.
The PDP alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) engaged in electoral swindling, deceit, and manipulation, including vote buying to suppress the people’s genuine aspirations.
Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, called on Nigerians and the international community to take serious action to address these issues and ensure the survival of Nigeria’s democracy.
Key Concerns Raised by PDP:
- Electoral Swindling: Alleged manipulation by APC to suppress people’s aspirations
- Vote Buying: Widespread election merchandising and monetization
- Lack of Transparency: Election fell short of expectations for a free, fair, and credible election
The PDP’s review and subsequent actions will be crucial in shaping the post-election landscape in Ondo State.
