A mechanical engineering student, Terhile Timothy Achinya, at the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic in Lafia, has allegedly been beaten to death by military men over claims of cultism.
The incident has sparked outrage, with the Students Union Government and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) calling for justice.
According to the Students Union President, Comr. Jacob John Mutuwa, Achinya was picked up by soldiers along with other accused students at an entertainment center. He died during interrogation and torture, and his body was deposited at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital.
The NANS has alleged that soldiers from the 123 Special Force Battalion were responsible for the killing and has urged military authorities to take immediate action. The polytechnic’s management and students have been advised to remain calm as legal action is being taken against the perpetrators.
