PRIVATE SECURITY GUARDS KILL OJUKWU VARSITY STUDENT IN ANAMBRA

A 27-year-old final-year student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Noel Chinedu Okechukwu, was shot and killed by private security guards at Senator Stella Oduah’s Estate in Akili-Ozizor, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to a petition filed by the victim’s father, Rex Peters Okechukwu, the incident occurred on August 17 when Noel visited the estate to buy fish from a pond. An altercation ensued after the guards denied him entrance, leading to one of the guards shooting him.

The petitioner alleged that the guards attempted to cover up the incident by giving Noel water to drink after shooting him, and he eventually died. The family is demanding justice, stating that the guards had no right to take Noel’s life.

However, the Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Andrew, reported a conflicting account, stating that Noel was among a group looting and vandalizing properties within the estate, and was armed with pump action guns. The guards returned fire after being shot at, resulting in Noel’s death.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation.
