A total of 17,600 Nigerian students secured admission into various U.S. institutions in 2023, according to U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr.
Mills Jr. disclosed this at the 23rd Annual College Fair in Abuja on Tuesday, September 17, stating that the Nigerian students are studying in over 970 institutions across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Texas emerged as the most popular destination, with many students drawn to its renowned universities and research opportunities.
The U.S. Embassy’s annual College Fair has played a crucial role in facilitating this growth, providing a platform for Nigerian students to connect with U.S. colleges and universities.
According to Mills Jr., “More Nigerians study in the United States than from any other African country… Our annual College Fairs have significantly increased the number of excellent applicants to U.S. institutions and boosted financial aid and scholarship opportunities for Nigerian students.”
The Ambassador emphasized the importance of education in promoting socioeconomic progress and equitable economic growth, highlighting the benefits of studying in the U.S., including:
– Quality education
– Cultural exchange
– Career opportunities
– Scholarship opportunities
He expressed optimism for continued collaboration with Nigeria, stating, “A prosperous and stable Nigeria benefits both Nigeria and the United States, and it all starts with education.”
