The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has rescued 3,683 people trapped in their homes due to the severe flooding in Maiduguri. The Director-General of SEMA, Mr. Barkindo Mohammed, confirmed that the search and rescue operation is still ongoing, with a focus on those who make distressed calls.
The flooding, caused by the collapse of the Alau dam on the Ngadda river, has affected around two million people, with SEMA opening 14 official camps and many informal camps for displaced persons. The Federal Government has supported the state with N3 billion and food consignments, while Governor Babagana Zulum has added additional funds.
Rescue efforts involve various modes of transportation, including boats, canoes, divers, military, and fire service trucks. As the water continues to recede, SEMA is concentrating on reaching those in need and providing aid to affected areas across the state.
