A deadly altercation between a Nigerian soldier and a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer ended in tragedy at a nightclub in Bodija, Ibadan.
According to eyewitnesses, the soldier, identified as Abubakar, stabbed NSCDC officer Olapade Segun with a dagger during a heated argument on Friday. Segun succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss.
Enraged by the incident, a mob severely beat Abubakar as he attempted to flee the scene. His colleagues intervened, dispersing the crowd and freeing him.
Sources reveal that senior Nigerian Army officers have visited the Oyo NSCDC command to investigate the incident, with an Army panel established to review the matter.
Efforts to reach Nigerian Army Public Relations Director, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, and NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, were unsuccessful.
This incident highlights concerns about violence and conflict between security personnel and the need for thorough investigations and accountability.
An investigation is ongoing.
