SOLDIER ALLEGEDLY KILLS POLICEMAN IN LAGOS TRAFFIC DISPUTE

 

Tragedy struck yesterday at Volks bus stop on Ojo/Iyana-Iba road, Lagos, when a soldier allegedly stabbed a policeman, Inspector Saka Ganiyu, to death over a traffic dispute.

Incident Unfolds

A police team stopped an unregistered Volkswagen bus driven by a soldier in mufti for driving against traffic. An argument ensued, and the soldier called for backup from Ojo Cantonment Barracks. His colleagues attacked the police team with dangerous weapons.

Fatal Consequences

Reinforcement teams arrived, repelled the soldiers, and rushed Inspector Ganiyu to LASUTH Ikeja, where he died.

Investigation and Response

The Lagos State Police Public Relations officer confirmed that investigation is ongoing. The Nigerian Army expressed regret, assuring thorough investigation and disciplinary measures to ensure justice.

Army Statement

“The incident is highly regrettable, given the Division’s commitment to the Nigerian Army Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement… The soldier suspected to have committed the offence has been apprehended and handed over to the Military Police.”
