Ayomide Adeleye, a 23-year-old philosophy student, has confessed to killing his 18-year-old church mate, Christiana Idowu, in a shocking case of ransom-driven murder.
Adeleye, who attended the Redeemed Christian Church of God with Christiana, strangled her while she was distracted by his phone. He then contacted her mother, claiming Christiana had been kidnapped, and demanded a ransom.
Christiana’s mother paid N360,000 into Adeleye’s Sporty Bet account, unaware that her daughter was already dead. Adeleye had initially demanded N3 million but settled for the lower amount.
The police arrested Adeleye after tracing his National Identification Number (NIN) to his Sporty Bet account.
During interrogation, Adeleye expressed remorse, stating:
“I don’t deserve mercy for what I’ve done. I regret killing Christiana. If there’s any way I could be given a second chance, I want to be given one, but I deserve death.”
Adeleye’s motives were reportedly driven by financial desperation.
