In a swift rebuttal, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed alarming reports of terrorists seizing control of the Nigerian Army Military Training Area in Kontagora, Niger State.
The rumors, described as “incorrect and inaccurate,” sparked widespread concern among locals and Nigerians at large. However, a thorough investigation by the military has revealed a vastly different reality.
According to Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, “no inch of the training area has been ceded to terrorists.” Instead, troops have been actively engaging and eliminating terrorist threats, conducting clearance operations to deny them freedom of action.
The Nigerian Army spokesperson, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, emphasized that military training areas remain secure and fortified, designed to swiftly neutralize any security threat.
So, what sparked the initial alarm? Honourable Abdullahi Isah, representing Kontagora II Constituency, had raised concerns about the alleged takeover on the floor of the Niger State House of Assembly. However, the DHQ’s investigation found no credible evidence to support these claims.
In fact, individuals observed in the area were merely herders seeking grazing grounds, with no malicious intent detected.
The Nigerian Army has reassured citizens of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, working closely with the Niger State government to improve security.
This swift debunking serves as a testament to the military’s transparency and dedication to keeping Nigerians informed and safe.
