This funding is part of a broader N700 billion package approved by President Bola Tinubu to enhance infrastructure, research, and development across Nigeria’s tertiary education institutions.
Here’s a breakdown of the allocation structure:
- Direct Disbursements: 91.08% of the total funding (N700 billion)
- Annual Direct Disbursements: 48.90% (N343 billion)
- Special Direct Disbursements: 42.18% (N295 billion)
- Special Projects: 8.72% (N61 billion) for infrastructure development
- Stabilization Fund: 0.20% (N1.4 billion)
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, emphasized that the funds will be used to upgrade, rehabilitate, and renovate dilapidated infrastructure in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. Additionally, a significant portion of the funding will be directed toward expanding research and innovation, academic staff training, and manuscript development.
