TikTok Removes 2.4 Million Videos by Nigerian Users in Q4 2024

 

TikTok has removed 2.4 million videos posted by Nigerian users in the fourth quarter of 2024 for violating its content policy. This was disclosed in the platform’s latest Community Guidelines Enforcement report.

 

Key Highlights

1. Top 50 countries: Nigeria was among the top 50 countries where videos violating TikTok’s policies emanated from in Q4.

2. Global removals: A total of 153 million videos were removed globally in the period under review.

3. Top violations: The removed content violated one or more of TikTok’s policies, including Integrity and Authenticity, Privacy and Security, Mental and Behavioural Health, Safety, and Civility.

4. Account removals: TikTok removed 211.5 million accounts discovered to be fake or owned by people suspected to be under 13 years of age.

Challenges Facing TikTok

Despite its enforcement actions, TikTok has been facing challenges from different countries arising from the usage and the kinds of content on the platform. In October last year, 13 U.S. states and the District of Columbia filed lawsuits accusing the social media giant of failing to protect young users from harm.
