President Bola Tinubu has established a Disaster Relief Fund to provide aid to Nigerian citizens affected by floods and other natural disasters. The announcement was made during his visit to Borno State, where he sympathized with the government and people over the recent flooding from Alau Dam.
“The climate is becoming increasingly unpredictable, and many places in our country are vulnerable,” President Tinubu said. “We must take proactive measures to support those affected.”
Tinubu urged the private sector to contribute to the fund and proposed allocating a portion of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to support disaster relief efforts.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, pledged the National Assembly’s collaboration with the executive to establish the fund.
During his visit, Tinubu also visited the Shehu of Borno, toured an Internally Displaced Persons camp at the Government Secondary School in Maiduguri, and inspected areas affected by the flooding.
