Tito Jackson, a founding member of the legendary Jackson 5 and older brother of Michael and Janet Jackson, has passed away at the age of 70.
His sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ, announced his death on Instagram, saying:
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson, is no longer with us.”
Tito died of an apparent heart attack on Sunday while driving from New Mexico to his home in Oklahoma, according to family friend Steve Manning.
Tito was an original member of the Jackson 5, which signed with Motown Records in 1969 and achieved international success with hits like “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” and “I’ll Be There.”
After the Jackson 5, Tito pursued a solo career, releasing his debut solo album “Tito Time” in 2016 and a blues album “Under Your Spell” in 2021.
Tito is survived by his three sons and was preceded in death by his former wife, Dolores, and younger brother, Michael Jackson.
