A horrific incident occurred in Mu’azu village, Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area, Jigawa State, where 26-year-old Nura Mas’ud set his 60-year-old grandmother, Zuwaira Muhammad, ablaze, resulting in her death.

Motive:
Mas’ud, who suffers from mental illness, claimed his grandmother’s constant inquiries about his health and well-being provoked him. In a confessional audio clip, he stated, “She frequently asked about my health, and I asked her what was happening to me, but she kept mum. That was what informed my decision to pour petrol on her.”
Investigation:
Jigawa State Police Command’s spokesman, Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident and revealed that Mas’ud has been receiving treatment at the Kazaure Psychiatric Hospital.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is suffering from mental illness and has been receiving treatment at the Kazaure Psychiatric Hospital,” Adam said.
Consequences:
Mas’ud has been arrested, and the case is under investigation.
