A devastating accident occurred at the Oye-Agu Market in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, when a speeding vehicle lost control and rammed into the market.
The incident, which happened at around 11:10 am on Wednesday, caused widespread panic and resulted in an unknown number of fatalities and injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the Toyota Sienna vehicle lost control of the brakes, crashing into the market and crushing several roadside traders. The impact of the crash caused goods to spill onto the road, creating a chaotic scene.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, with some of the injured victims being rushed to a nearby hospital. The President-General of the Abagana Community, Ben Okongwu, confirmed that at least three persons died in the crash, including an under-aged child, while others sustained various degrees of injuries.
The Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State has promised to investigate the incident and provide further information.
