Tragedy Strikes Ibadan: 10 Dead, 7 Rescued in Building Collapse

Ibadan, Oyo State – A devastating building collapse occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning, claiming the lives of 10 people and leaving 7 others injured.

 

Incident Details:

  •  Location: Jegede Olorunsogo, Ona Ara Local Government Area, Ibadan
  •  Time: 2 a.m., yesterday morning
  •  Casualties: 10 dead, 7 injured

 

According to eyewitnesses, the building, a residential structure, crumbled at around 2 a.m., trapping occupants beneath the rubble.

 

Rescue Efforts:

Rev. Akinyemi Akinyinka, General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, confirmed that his team received a distress call at 2 a.m. and swiftly responded to the scene.

 

“Our team worked tirelessly to rescue those trapped, and we were able to save 7 lives,” Akinyinka said. “Unfortunately, 10 people lost their lives in this tragic incident.”

 

Investigation Underway:

The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the cause of the building collapse.

 

“We are working to determine the factors that led to this tragedy,” said a police spokesperson. “We urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with our investigators.”

 

Security Enhanced:

To prevent any interference from hoodlums and ensure public safety, security has been beefed up in the area.

 

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents calling for improved building safety standards and regular inspections to prevent similar tragedies.
