Tragedy Strikes Ibadan: Fire Claims Lives of Couple and Grandson

 

A devastating fire incident has claimed the lives of a husband, wife, and their grandson in the Ori-Eru, Idikan area of Ibadan, Oyo State. The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Friday, December 20, 2024.

According to the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, the agency received a distress call about the fire at 3:46 am and immediately deployed personnel to the scene.

Details of the Incident:

  1.  The fire affected a storey building, engulfing the upper floor.
  2.  Three people lost their lives in the fire: a husband, wife, and their grandson.
  3. Five others were rescued alive from the building.
  4. The ground floor and nearby properties were saved from the inferno.

Cause of the Fire:

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by the use of a naked flame to keep the house warm, which led to the disaster after the occupants fell asleep.

Response and Investigation:

A team of policemen and operatives of Amotekun were deployed to the scene to maintain law and order. The Oyo State Fire Services Agency is conducting further investigations into the incident.
