A devastating road accident occurred at Oyeagu Market, Abagana in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State, resulting in the loss of one young life and leaving six others injured.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) reported that the accident involved a Sienna bus belonging to the Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS), which experienced brake failure and rammed into the market.
According to Margaret Onabe, Acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Anambra State Command of FRSC, the deceased victim was a female child, while the injured victims, comprising males and females, were taken to Urban Hospital and Maternity for medical attention. The FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 Nteje responded promptly to the scene, and the vehicle was impounded by the DTO team Oyiagu.
Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
She emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to meet minimum safety standards and cautioned market women against displaying their wares and selling by the roadside.
