Tragedy Strikes in Cross River State: Police Officer Killed, 3 Abducted

A devastating incident occurred on Thursday evening in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Gunmen attacked Quarry Camp, killing a police inspector and abducting two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nelson Okpabi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Calabar.

 

The attackers, dressed in military camouflage, made off with the slain officer’s AK-47 rifle. They gained access to the quarry due to a security breach at the gate caused by a worker’s mistake.

 

The Aftermath

The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of the zone, Jonathan Towuru, has ordered a thorough search for the perpetrators. The police are urging the public to provide any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.

 

This incident highlights the growing concern about insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in Cross River State. The police and other security agencies must work together to ensure the safe release of the abducted individuals and bring the perpetrators to justice.
