Tragedy Strikes Niger State: Eight Farmers Killed in Road Crash

 

A devastating road accident occurred on the Batati/Lanle Road in Niger State, claiming the lives of eight farmers. The crash involved a Toyota Corolla and a tanker trailer, with the Corolla reportedly speeding and attempting to overtake another vehicle before colliding with the oncoming tanker.

The victims, who were farmers from Niger Zone B, had migrated to Dasu village in Lavun Local Government Area due to insecurity. They were crushed beyond recognition in the crash, which occurred at around 8 pm on Monday.

An eyewitness described the accident as a horrifying scene, stating that the victims’ bodies were crushed beyond recognition. The Assistant Commander of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria, Kutigi Branch, Mohammed Sanusi, also confirmed the incident and expressed sorrow over the condition of the victims.

The victims were buried in Dasu village on Tuesday. While no official statements have been issued by the Niger State Government, the State Police Command, or the Federal Road Safety Corps, personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Red Cross, and RTEAN were commended for their efforts in evacuating the bodies from the scene.
