A two-storey building under construction in Egbelu Mgbaraja, Ogbogoro Community, Obio/Akpor LGA, Rivers State, collapsed on Monday, killing one person and injuring another.

Causes and Reactions:
Eyewitness Jonathan Obey attributed the collapse to substandard materials and inadequate foundation. Rivers State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Evans Bipi, condemned the developer’s negligence, stating:
“We’ve made it clear that if you build without approval, you will face the consequences.”
Bipi declared the developer wanted, sealed the site, and warned of strong action.
Government Response:
Rivers State Commissioner for Special Duties, Samuel Anya, expressed dismay, emphasizing the need for accountability:
“The owner and engineer responsible must be held accountable as the government prioritizes the safety of lives.”
This incident highlights concerns over building safety and regulation in Nigeria.
